Health Checks

Patients aged between the ages of 16-75 who have not been seen within 3 years can request a health check at their next consultation.

Patients over the age of 75 who have not been seen for 12 months can request a health check at their next consultation.

An NHS Health Check is a free check-up delivered by health professionals for adults aged 40 to 74 to help lower the risk of developing health conditions. They are designed to spot early signs of stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and dementia.

Health checks are also currently being delivered across Staffordshire in collaboration with Everyone Health.

Please see the Everyone Health website for more information on NHS health checks.

You can also book appointments online, or text the word ‘HEART’ to 60777, and a member of the Everyone Health team will be in touch. Alternatively, you can call 0333 005 0095.

left ear

Simple Ear Wax Removal

Simple ear wax removal, for the purposes of impacted wax alone, will no longer be available at Alton Surgery or funded on the NHS.
If your GP feels that you have a more complex ear condition, then they will still be able to refer you to an ENT or Audiology specialist for clinical review.

The decision was taken by the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board (ICB) following a review of its Excluded & Restricted Procedure Policy. This is to make sure the services provided by the NHS are both clinically and cost effective, aiming to get the best value for money from the resources available.

This is not a decision the GP practice has made, so please contact the ICB Patient Advice and Liaison team (PALS) if you wish to make a complaint.
